News:

  • June 24: Finally, finally, finally! The results have been published in 5 detailed results table! Click here! coolzx won, Misteroo placed second and BenW became third! The company contest has once again been won by AKWare (just like last year). Blazer made the best future board, Blue Magus made the best winter board and coolzx made the best horror board. I apologize for the delay, but this took me more time than I thought it would. I spend many, many hours on it. Anyway, enjoy the 5 results tables! :D
  • June 18: In total, I got 38 entries! That's a damn lot, considering a lot of people dropped out, too. But hey, we had an extreme amount of sign-ups! I've released the entries. Download them here. The judging phase has now started. Stay tuned for the detailed results.
  • June 17: Right now the contest will end relatively soon. I've received a lot of good entries so far and I'm expecting to get some more. I'm going off to sleep myself, now, so that's why I'm updating a little earlier. This doesn't mean you can try to send in your entry later than 7:40 PM Eastern Time - all emails are timestamped. Tomorrow morning, I'll put up the entries and then the judging phase will start.
  • June 16 (posted later): Added more participants. The contest has started! The topics are: Future, Winter and Horror. For info on the topics, click here.
  • June 16: Added more participants. The contest starts later today! Keep checking this page for the topics and the latest info. Also, Kev Vance released an alpha of KevEdit, which you are allowed to use for the art boards.
  • June 13: Added more participants. Added Lame Game, FotZ and AuroraSoft to the company contest list. The contest is coming closer...
  • June 12: Added more participants. Added DirrCo to the company contest list. Also, I've decided to cut the time you'll get after the contest ends to send in your entry from one hour to 10 minutes. Still a few days to go before the contest starts! Sign up while you're at it and get ready! :D
  • June 8: Added one more participant. Very important news: the contest has been pulled back a week because of the Day of Zeux. It now starts on June 16, 7:30 PM Eastern Time. See "Time schedule" for details.

  • May 16: Added more participants. Added Interactive Fantasies to the company contest list.
  • May 15: Added more participants.
  • May 14: Added more participants. Added Erratic Denomination to the company contest list. It's not really a company, but I made an exception for them, since they're staff members of the same website. I finally decided on the IF24AHOZ date/time. It starts on Friday June 23 at 7:30 PM Eastern Time. For detailed info, read the Time Schedule section, please.
  • May 13: Added more participants. It may be very well so that I'll have the date set tomorrow, since I just got to hear that I'll probably be gone in July instead of June. Well, keep checking the page for the date and time schedule.
  • May 12: Added more participants. Changed tseng's ID number and added AKware to the company contest list. Still haven't set a date yet. All I can tell now is that it'll be held in June on a Saturday.
  • May 11: Added more participants. Dexter is the fourth (and last) judge.
  • May 10: Added more participants. Creator is now a judge. I'll try to set a date as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience on this matter.
  • May 9: The page goes up. Added DoggyShop and HM to the participants list.

    The contest in a nutshell:

The IF 24 artistic hours of ZZT is a ZZT art/graphics contest, which takes place during 24 hours (like the 24 hours of ZZT). All participants have to create three art boards. The topics for these three art boards will be announced when the contest starts on this page and #if on Austnet (for time schedule, see below). All three boards will be rated by the judges. The one with the highest score will win, of course. There is much more, read on.

    Time schedule:

The contest starts on Friday 16 June on 7:30 PM Eastern Time. The contest ends on Saturday 17 June on 7:30 PM Eastern Time. The time might be changed due to personal reasons, but the date is set. After the contest ends on 7:30 PM Eastern Time, you still have 10 minutes to send in your artwork to me (Hercules) at s_pieterse@hotmail.com. This means all entries have to be in by 7:40 PM Eastern Time. All entries received later than this will be disqualified, so don't try to do that.

    Sign up:

If you want to participate in this contest, mail me (Hercules) at s_pieterse@hotmail.com and tell me you want to participate. I need your preferred ID number and your name, so please give me that (if I don't know you). There is also a special company contest (you can also sign up for that) - read on to find out more about this.

    Rules:

  • Three artboards (based on the topics) must be sent in. If you sent in less than 3 boards, you won't be disqualified, but needless to say, your chances of winning are 0.
  • The artboards must be on-topic. If an artboard doesn't match the topic in any way, you'll be disqualified.
  • All entries must be received before Saturday June 17, 7:40 PM Eastern Time, in ZZT format (not BRD). If you send it in later, you'll be disqualified, so don't try to do that.
  • No animation or fonts may be used. If you use some, you'll get less points. Remember this is an art contest.
  • The boards will be rated via the editor, so you don't have to add a box in which the player can walk.
  • Use of Super Toolkit, KevEdit 0.1 and pre-made toolboxes is allowed, of course. You do not necessarily have to include the toolboxes and STK boards in your finished entry.
  • No pre-made or ripped art may be sent in. If you do so, you'll be disqualified.
  • Junk/fake entries (entries that were made crappy on purpose) will be immediately disqualified and they won't be released. Please don't do so - it's completely useless.

    Judging:

All of the art boards received will be rated by the judges: Hercules, darkmage, Creator and Dexter. All art boards will receive a score from 0 to 10, based on creativity, STK-use, on-topicness and its looks. There will be five different results tables: three tables for the topics, a total results table and a company contest results table.

    Company contest:

The IF 24 artistic hours of ZZT also includes a special company contest. All companies can subscribe: three members of that company need to participate and tell me they represent their company. Note that they also participate individually. Of course more than 3 guys of the same company can participate, but only three members can participate in the company contest. The winning company is the one which has the highest total score (the score of all three members added up). This company will get a special company trophy.

    Trophies:

The participants who cover the first, second and third place will receive a special trophy. The results will be published a few days after the contest, depending on how much time I have to my availabilty.

    Topics:

    The topics have been announced:

  • Future: A clear topic. This should give varied results, since the future may look different in many people's eyes.
  • Winter: Draw what makes you think of the season 'winter'. Snow, whatever - it's up to you. Originality always helps.
  • Horror: You've probably all seen one or more old horror movies. Zombies, Frankenstein, vampires, ghosts, haunted castles - whatever makes you afraid.

    Results:

The results have been published! They have been put into five comprehensive tables:

  • Overall results table.
  • Future art board results table.
  • Winter art board results table.
  • Horror art board results table.
  • Company contest results table.
